“A high-quality personalized band classroom will help to increase young musicians' ownership of their musical performance and understanding of their instrument. Students will have opportunities to develop their skills both in the classroom and beyond the school day.”

Meachem Elementary Band Students.
What is SyraFuse? SyraFuse strives to implement, evaluate, and scale blended learning across the Syracuse City School District by creating and
training teacher leaders as change agents. The Fuse Syracuse initiative will recruit a group of educators called Fuse Fellows for a 1-year fellowship, during which Fellows will be trained on personalized learning models and best practices, coached on classroom implementation, and supported to establish a “Lighthouse Classroom” to serve as a model of personalized instruction in their building and district.Fuse Fellows are passionate, curious innovators in their schools who model a growth mindset, and are open to changing and taking their practice to the next level. They are natural change agents for their schools, and welcome the opportunity to advance the field through their own leadership and instructional innovation. We are seeking Fellows who demonstrate enthusiasm for personalized learning, have strong research and time management skills, and are willing to go outside of their comfort zones.

THE musician in me
In the Band Room's at both Clary and Meachem, musicians access themselves after each lesson. This gives the time for each musician to reflect on the lesson, what they have accomplished and what they need to improve on. See the pictures below for the Musician In Me in action.

Musician's work on their note naming skills. Musician's record how many note names they can identify in 1, 2, 3 and 5 minutes.
Goal getters
Musician's set individual goals (short and/or long term, sometimes more than one) in the instrumental music room. They check their goal at each lesson: the steps they took to achieve it, student reflection and teacher reflection
